Are the monuments and museums in Washington DC within walking distance of each other?
I will be traveling to Washington DC this week and since my trip is limited by few days I want to plan ahead so I can see as much as I can. I will be there for 3 days. If I take the metro to White house can I walk to smithsonian, memorials, arlington cemetery? What is withing walking distance of what? So I can plan a trip per day, taking one trip and walking the rest of the day. Thanks
Most of the monuments are within walking distance of each other – if you like to walk. The White House is a mile from the Capitol (and there are some sights on the far side of the Capitol like the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress. The Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial are two miles apart, with the White House about 1/4 mile north of this axis – with 10 of the Smithsonian Museums, the National Gallery of Art, Washington Monument, WWII memorial, Constitution Gardens, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and Korean War Memorial between them. an Eleventh Smithsonian Museum is on Pennsylvania Avenue half a block from the White House.
Also positioned a little south of this axis is the Tidal Basin, and the Jefferson and FDR Memorials.
Arlington Cemetery is a little harder, but near the Lincoln Memorial is Memorial Bridge, which will take you over there.
And additional half mile extended from Lincoln and a couple of miles walking in the cemetery to see everything.
Check out our Podcast Walking tour of Washington. We do a tour of the mall, we also do a “grand tour” from the Capitol South Metro past the Capitol, and everything around it, and down PA avenue to White House then across to the Washington Monument.
The Circulator Bus mentioned above, does have service in this area (and to the Convention Center area, and to Georgetown from Union Station) and is only $1, but the routes are not as the poster stated (he said he was not sure). I have a link to that also – to help you. Note the Smithsonian-National Gallery of Art Loop runs weekends only.

If you plan to spend some days in Barcelona and wants to know the city very well received, is a great idea to spend each day on a trip around themes. One of them can spend the Gothic Quarter, the most mysterious area of Barcelona and the bottom of the "Cathedral of the Sea" by Ildefonso Falcones, one of the biggest bestsellers in recent years.
The Gothic Quarter is the oldest part of Barcelona. Located in walking distance to all important places in the city such as Las Ramblas, the beach, the architecture of Gaudi. It's full of cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops, but still retains its unique atmosphere of the muse. It is a good area to rent a _blank> http://www.friendlyrentals.com/ "title =" apartment Barcelona> Barcelona apartment in one of the tall houses covering the narrow cobbled streets of the district from the sun.
The most important monument to see in this quarter is the famous Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, which is one of the patrons of the capital of Catalonia. The Saint 's body is buried in the crypt of the cathedral.
The cathedral was built between the ages 13 and 15. You can see in the courtyard of the church, 13 white geese symbolize the tradition that Eulalia was 13 when martyrdom. You have to climb the tower and see the view over the center and beyond.
Another stop during your trip should be the Gothic chapel of Santa Agata. It is one of the chapels was the royal palace. Worth visiting also the 14th century Town Hall with its magnificent interior rooms.
If you are interested in the history of this town, you can pass to the Museum d'Historia of the City. You can find there many exhibitions on all aspects of the history of Catalan. I know that may be useful for the insertion of the inhabitants of this region to their language, culture and autonomy.
There are also other monuments of the Middle Ages in the area not necessarily be seen from the inside, but make a big impression while seeing them from outside.
If you visit the oldest cities in the Mediterranean Sea area, should pop to Valencia. This city is also popular among tourists, therefore it is recommended to find a "http://www.friendlyrentals.com/en/apartments/valencia/accommodation-120.htm title = "Apartment Valencia> Apartment Valencia in advance. Its old town is small but charming and very different from Barcelona.
