The advertising people liked to portray tobacco as romantic, or associate it with exciting sports like motor racing, while in reality it’s a stinking weed that could better be associated with gasping for breath, cancers, and death.

Advertisers portray EVERYTHING in a positive way. It’s their job. I’m not saying I agree with it, but it’s the way it is, and tobacco should not be singled out. Yes it is unhealthy, but so are a great deal of other things. Like a hell of a lot of the food that Americans stuff their face with every day–they’re always portrayed as positive, meanwhile people suffer from all kinds of health problems due to the crap they eat. Maybe food advertisements should all feature obese people, or people suffering from heart attacks.
