Can you put your pedometer in your pocket?

I’ve been told to attach it to a belt, but I don’t wear a belt. I need to wear a pedometer for two weeks for an assignment. Will I get an accurate reading if I just put it in my pocket? I’m a girl so I wear tight pants anyway. Wouldn’t that keep it just as stable as if it were on a belt?

if you can, clip it to the belt loops
or if that doesnt work put it inside your pocket but clip it onto the pocket
so part of the clip is outside the pocket, but the large unsightly part of it is inside
keeps it stable and allows it to get an accurate reading
